In 2024, 62% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths (combined) with 3% attaining greater depth in all three subjects. Nationally, 61% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths (combined) with 8% attaining greater depth in all three subjects. Across Bedford Borough, 55% of pupils reached the expected standard in reading, writing and maths (combined) with 4% attaining greater depth in all three subjects.

Assessing our pupils and tracking the progress they make is fundamental to teaching and learning. Assessment is a continuous process in the teaching and learning that takes place in school. To support this, we use a very effective piece of software to track the progress of each individual child and set targets to inform their learning.
 
On entry to the Foundation Stage, the children undertake the statutory baseline assessment (known as the RBA) to assess communication, early literacy, language and maths.  In addition to this, we also complete our own, in-school assessments to ensure accurate entry-level data is established.
 
In Key Stage 1, children undertake the Phonic Screening test at the end of Year 1.  As Key Stage 1 assessments have become optional, there is no longer a legal requirement for schools to report end of year two teacher assessment.
 
In Key Stage 2, children in Year 3, 4 and 5 undertake non-statutory assessments.  Alongside this, Year 4 children sit the Multiplication Tables Check.
 
At the end of this Key Stage, Year 6 children undertake the end of key stage Statutory Assessment Tasks (SATs). These results are reported individually to the parents/carers through parent consultation meetings, progress reports as well as end-of-year reports.
 
All children are monitored very carefully and, if necessary, intervention strategies can be put in place to help those who have potential difficulties in some areas of the curriculum. Where necessary, the SENCO will undertake more detailed assessments.
